Yesterday we finished five days cycling, the last 50km were on dirt road full of pot holes, and I'm proud to say I didn't even want to use the support vehicle once, even though I've actually been burnt VERY badly on my arms - I think the doxy made me burn, I had plenty of sunscreen but oh well... had to aloe up and cover them so I could finish but my legs were fine and working! The group is very good too, I don't think anyone has complained about conditions or riding, and a good mix of people. It's odd seeing other foreigners and tourists here in Phnom Penh as we've been travelling through very remote country until now.
Today we had the oxfam project visit - at a very remote, poor village two hours out of Phnom Penh. The villagers had a chance to ask us all questions which was quite special as many of the kids probably hadn't seen foreigners before, and we had a rundown on what Oxfam was doing out there (very comprehensive - agriculture/rice and cow banks, health and gender programs, programs to help the poorest, literacy and skills training), a chance to quiz the village and Oxfam staff on what life was like there and the programs, and a tour. I felt very lucky to be able to go, and we finished it by buying lunch from the community, best meal in ages.
