Oxfam Project Visit

Hi all, with a few days to go before departure (eek!) I thought you might like to see this email I received from Oxfam. During the trip we'll be visiting an Oxfam project - it's projects like this one where your generous donations end up.

On the 7th of December, you will be visiting an Oxfam project in the province of Takeo which is about an hours drive south from Phnom Penh. The project is called Takeo Rural The project aims to achive food security for some of the poorest communities in Cambodia. Without food security the communities of Prey Kabas and Treang districts are particularly susceptible to the effects of natural disasters such as floods and droughts. People are less able to fight off infection as a result of poor nutrition and this significantly contributes to high infant and adult mortality rates. As a long term approach, Oxfam Australia will provide support and training so that the communities can address their own development needs in terms of food shortage, public health, lack of cashincome and vulnerability to further impoverishment.
